REDUCING POVERTY UNEMPLOYEMENT AND CRIME RATE IN OUR COUNTRY

Poverty eradication and job creation are among the major policy thrusts of every government in Nigeria. Despite the various government policies and programs created to address this twin problem, Nigeria is still far from meeting the United Nations standard for employment and per capita income. Millions of Nigerians still live below the poverty line. Unemployment is still a critical problem affecting Nigerians. The current economic downturn, increasing inflation, escalating exchange rate, and cost of power have all further aggravated the level of poverty, and unemployment now principally identified as the root cause of crime and by implication Banditary, kidnapping, Boko haram, bunkering Yahoo Yahoo etc

However, Nigeria continues to be the investor’s delight of the world today because of its population size, favorable climatic conditions, huge minerals, and enthusiastic human resources. But Nigeria like many other developing countries of the world poses some challenges to creating wealth. Despite her huge avalanche of these resources Nigerians still experience high poverty, unemployment, and an alarming crime rate that poses challenges that inhibit personal development and business growth as a result of weak past leadership, poor educational system, and over-reliance on wrong religious values evolve a crop of leaders who have formed role model who do nothing but make money from rent-seeking contracts, religious prosperity teaching relying on making monies through miracles.

The consequence is a damaged mindset that has created fears, doubts and heavy reliance on government jobs and provision of everything by becoming political or religious leaders this has increased the crime rate from the desire to make quick monies from government contracts and banditry (Goko haram, Kidnapping Oil bunkering Yahoo yahoo etc). The Information Technology (Internet) which is the skills for operating under the current situation remotely is also lacking in individuals and businesses today

In an attempt to reduce poverty in the region and the Country as a whole, the government has at several times introduced policies such as NAPEP, NEED, SEED, NDE Niger Delta Amnesty programme, etc aimed at reducing unemployment in the Country. Unfortunately, the result is far from meeting expectation. This has often resulted in restiveness and other social vices. To find lasting solution to unemployment and youth restiveness in the Country, expert have suggested skills acquisition training and youths empowerment programmes like Small and Medium-Scale Enterprises (SMEs), self-employment, entrepreneurship trainings the poverty, unemployment and crime rate continue to escalate.

However, one critical factor that is unfortunately often overlooked is the mindset of Nigerians with respect to employment ICT awareness, working remotely, and wealth creation. A situation where everyone who receives any form of formal training looks forward to being employed by someone else is dangerous. The growing attitude of our women and youths of seeing all the obstacles to success and very little or nothing of abounding opportunities around them is unhealthy for our Country and needs to be urgently reversed especially now.

It is on this basis that i-Skill Limited in conjunction with FMG Platform Empowerment Ltd has researched and developed this high impact Mindset reorientation program – “Money on the Streets” This program will expose participants to Reorientating their mindset, position them for success with what they do or choose to do, Start most Businesses with little or nothing, Do Business remotely, increase their business volumes, turnover and profitability, enable them access the various Government facilitated starter grants and loans with one to three months of Mentorship and business development consultation.
